A list of the top 10 most popular blog posts, DIY projects, and room makeovers of 2018 with ideas for making your own house a home!
Happy 2019! I can’t believe it’s the start of the new year.
It’s fun to look back and see how 2018 was for this little blog. Blogging is one of the most frustrating and rewarding things I have ever done. I’m approaching my 2nd year anniversary with this blog and that itself is hard to believe!
What I love the most is turning my house into a home and sharing some of my tips with you.
Some tips might be genius and some tips might be just plain dumb but I love sharing the genius and dumb tips with you.
So let’s look back at some of your favorites…

Front Porch Refresh
This post was by far your most favorite post of the year and it might be a fan favorite for a while because of this little guy.
That picture above was pinned 126 thousand times on Pinterest! I had no idea when I purchased the infamous plaid rug that it would be the number one thing you guys ask me about. It goes in and out of stock so many times, so keep checking back. Rumor has it, these rugs will be back in stock sometime in early 2019.
These plaid rugs are a good replacement if you do not want to wait for the real deal. I have one on my front porch now to change things up.
Decorating 101: How To Begin Decorating When You Do Not Know Where To Begin
I have had a few of you reach out to me thanking for me this post. Decorating shouldn’t be hard or frustrating. I can spend hours and days looking at beautiful homes on Pinterest and soaking up so many ideas. I know that some of you might not share my obsession with interior decor. I am not an interior designer but if I can help someone start loving their home with just a few easy tips I have learned along the way, then I am one happy camper
How to add character to your home
Our first family home was as builder grade as they can come and I spent years trying to make it feel like home. Sometimes when you feel like you are lacking something in your house, it turns out what is lacking is some good ol’ character. Even in our current house I am still looking for ways to add character to our home.
Small Home Office And Laundry Room Makeover
This was one of my favorite makeovers and still one of my favorite rooms in our house. If you have been hanging out with me for a while you know that I used to hate this room. With some paint and a little creativity I now love this little room.
Napkin Pillows
This was a fan favorite last year and a fan favorite this year. You can see all the ways I make my own pillow covers here which includes my napkin pillows. I love napkin pillows year round but I love them even more in the winter months when I love throwing plaid around my house.
How to decorate on a budget
For those that know me should know that I am a budget decorator. I rarely pay full price for anything and if I do, it’s because it is one heck of a deal. I like to get creative with what I have and if I can DIY it, I do.
Sunroom Makeover
Another one of my favorite makeovers. This room was dirty and tired looking. Just a few small changes and it’s another one of my favorite rooms in our home. It just goes to show you that it doesn’t take much to turn a room in your house into something you love.
No Sew Curtains And How To Fake A Pinch Pleat
Back to that decorating on a budget post…making your own curtains can save you so much money and it is so easy to do (pinky swear). I rarely buy curtains anymore for my house unless I get them from IKEA because their curtains are insanely budget friendly. Like I said before, if I can DIY it, I will.
How To Paint Your Doors
I used to be scared of painting doors. I never did it until just recently. I’m not sure what I was so afraid of because it is so easy to do and makes such a difference in our home. I paint interior and exterior doors using the same technique and I have been using my left over exterior door paint for my interior doors and everything is holding up just fine and dandy.
How To Get Affordable Art For Your Walls
I can probably do a whole post on how to get affordable wall art for your home. There are so many beautiful prints you can find online. My favorite go to is Juniper Print Shop (formerly known as Jenny’s Print Shop). I “made” this giant wall art for my mantel by using on of her prints.
2018 was a good year and I am excited to see what amazing and not so amazing ideas I have up my sleeve for 2019. Lots of organizing will be done this coming year. I’m in the process of purging my oldest daughter’s room and giving it a mini makeover. You can see the mood board for it here and how I begin my design process.
I have an overwhelming urge to add some wallpaper to some of our walls and there is talk of us ripping out our fireplace (!!)…I can’t wait to write my best of 2019 post!
Thanks for hanging out with me for the past year and a half! And if you want to see more come hang out with me on Facebook and Instagram and pin with me on Pinterest!
