How To Make DIY Ghosts for Halloween
When I started this blog many years ago, I mainly focused on DIY and craft projects.
I forget how much I hated doing them
Kidding.
But some craft projects end up as a huge giant fail but some turn out to be easy wins.
This was an easy win and such a fun DIY project that you can do with your kids.
I made one first and then had my youngest help me with the other one.
Let this be known too, that this project was not my idea. I’ve seen these ghosts all over the place and the tutorials are all about the same. I just tried to put my spin on it.
It really wasn’t much of a spin though.
DIY Halloween Ghosts Using Tomato Cages
Items Needed:
(This post contains affiliate links. You can see my full disclosure policy here)
Tomato Cages-I found mine at Home Depot. I purchased two 54″ cages since that is all they had left. I used my dremel to cut off the bottom section of the one cage to shorten it a bit.
String Lights~ Any lights will do here. You can use fairy lights or Christmas lights. I used my favorite twinkling Christmas lights I have already
Foam Balls~ I used two 8″ foam balls
Twin Flat Sheet (or old white curtains)~ I ended up using old IKEA curtains I had lying around. A flat sheet will work as well (and maybe work a bit better).
Cheesecloth~ This is the tiny spin I put on my ghost. I added some cheesecloth to my ghost. Did it make it extra spookier? I don’t think so
Black Felt~ For the eyes
How To Make Your Halloween Ghosts
Like I said, this is such and easy DIY project. I’m waiting to make another one and we’ll likely put these ghost out on our front porch.
Use hair tie to tie the top part of your tomato cage so it’ll be easier to get your foam ball to stay attached.
Add in your lights of choice
Drap your sheet on top
And then the cheesecloth if you’re feeling crazy
Cut out some eyes and a mouth and press them onto your ghost. And voila
I forgot how hard it is to cut through felt and I forgot how hard it is to cut an oval circle.
(And at the last minute I decided to add a mouth to my ghost)
But that’s it, that is how easy it is to make your ghosts.
I’ve seen a few tutorials where you can add in a pool noodle into your tomato cage to look like arms for your ghosts.
If I can find a pool noodle this late into the summer, I will attempt that and report back
PS…I’ve also seen these ghosts already made for you all over the place. Personally I like the DIY version but if for any reason you want to just hit add to cart here you go…
These are selling out so fast too so FYI.
