I think my front porch might be my most favorite space to decorate in our home. In our previous house our front porch was so small that I never really paid to attention to it. I should have though. One day, I’ll apologize to my old front porch for neglecting it.

However, my current front porch gets redecorated 145,258 times a year. Well, maybe not that many times . I told myself this year that I wasn’t going to do much out here. I was going to go easy this year. I didn’t want to stress myself out this year. Or pull out the ladder to add any garland. Or buy anything new…

Bahahahaha, I don’t know why I lie to myself. My husband brought home the Santa mailbox for the kids and I couldn’t just let it sit out there all alone with no Christmas friends. I did this for the mailbox.

My husband found the mailbox at Walmart (only available in store) and while I think it’s a cute idea, I can’t truly recommend it. It was a pain in the you know what to put together and there are so many flaws. I hope it lasts one season.

And while I did have to pull out the ladder to hang garland (that I have had for thousands of years), it was pretty easy to get this front porch ready for Santa.

I had every intention of putting real trees out here. Lowe’s and Home Depot have the cutest indoor Christmas trees you can purchase as a gift for someone. And I would have loved them on my front porch (even though they are indoor trees…I’m a rebel like that).

But….while I kill most plants, for some reason, this past year I can’t kill anything. I had to bring all of my plants I had on the front porch and in our sunroom inside for the winter. My house is starting to look like a forest. I knew if I brought home real tress I’d have to bring them in too eventually. I can’t handle two more plants to take care of. And I am running out of room in my house.

So fake it is. A quick tip…putting a fake Christmas tree in a basket or bucket is not as easy as you might think. Most tree stands that come with your fake tree will be larger than you think. I assumed the stand to these smaller trees would fit just fine in my planters. They did not.

I ended up taking two of the three “feet” off the stand and shoving drop cloths around the tree to hold it up. It gets crazy windy here so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this idea actually works. We shall see.

**These trees are for indoor use only. Obviously, our front porch is covered so I am OK with keeping these trees outside but just be careful if you do decide to put these outside.

I also added one of my mini Christmas trees I found at Big Lots. I mentioned this tree in this post but this tree is so good and it’s only $8 (and currently on sale).

I have had my lanterns for years but you can find similar ones here. I have some of those flameless candles on my mantel too and I love them. They are remote controlled so I can turn them on and off easily.

**Side note…notice that giant scratch on my front porch?? Oops…note to self, do not drag heavy planters around your front porch.

I have this wreath hung on my door year round but added some bells and ribbon to it for the holidays. I love when I can take my everyday decor and throw some bells on them. It’s the easiest way to decorate for Christmas.

I had fun decorating our front porch this year. And I love that I completely changed it around from last year! I had to take a quick shot of the porch too as I was working on it and it started snowing. While I froze my buttocks off out here, it was worth it.
