Summer Home Tour And Easy Decor Ideas. Get your home ready for summer!
Welcome to the Sunshine State of Mind Home Tour! Thank you so much Mansa over at This Is Simplicite for hosting once again. If you are coming over from Ashley’s home tour, I hope you have enjoyed seeing everyone’s home decked out for summer so far. Make sure to check out all of the other bloggers joining in this week.
I used to love looking at these home tours prior to my blogging days. I still do, but I will let you in on a little secret. This home tour snuck up on me since the last one I did for spring.
My house pretty much looked the exact same as it did in April until just a few days ago. If you ever really wonder what goes on behind the scenes, it’s usually just me running around my house moving things around a few days before I need to snap some pictures.
I really do like my impromptu summer makeover I did though. There is something about summer that makes me want to minimize everything.
Maybe it’s just the feeling of impending doom that makes me want to get rid of clutter in my house. The kids will be home soon for summer break. The less there is in this house, the less they can mess up (wishful thinking I know).

Summer Front Porch
My favorite thing to give a little makeover to is my front porch. I recently added those lemon trees to my collection and I love them.

Last fall we got a storm door and it totally changed the look of our front door area. I painted our front door black and I feel like these lemon trees are giving that black door some life.
I also planted real plants in my planters this year and I have every intention on keeping them alive… until at least July (hopefully).
Since I took this picture, these little plants have grown so much already! Maybe, just maybe, I won’t kill them. You can see more about my summer front porch here.
Summer Family Room
Our family room got the biggest summer makeover. And by “makeover” I mean I moved the most stuff around in this room. We spend alot of time in here and I was craving some simplicity for summer. I tried to go neutral with my decor while adding in more texture

Another thing I love to redecorate seasonally (or daily) is our mantel. I wasn’t really anticipating that I’d change my mantel for summer. I was still liking my spring mantel but it was starting to feel a little too heavy for me for summer. I kept the mirror and just changed the decor around it.
I printed out the same picture I had up on my spring mantel and just framed a small section of it in a cute inexpensive frame. Such an easy way to get affordable art.
I also switched out our pillows on our couch for lighter feeling ones.
I love these pillows and there is something about that jute trim on the white pillows that gets me every time. The best thing about these white pillows…you can remove the covers to wash them. Hoolah!! I was beyond excited to see that zipper. Three kids and a dog…mama needs to wash her pillow covers.
Summer Mudroom
I gave our mudroom a much needed makeover recently. It was a hot mess and needed a giant overhaul. The navy and white walls and wicker baskets feel like summer to me to begin with but I replaced my jean jacket with this cute beach hat.
And if you read my mudroom makeover post, you know why there needs to be a beach hat there. It’ll be our little secret. The hat fits that dryer vent perfectly though..ha!
Summer Sunroom
Last year our screened in porch received it’s much needed makeover. I didn’t change too much out here since then but I did add in some new outdoor pillows. I did a whole pillow post a few months ago if you are looking for affordable pillows. I purchased the black and white pillows when Serena and Lily was having a huge sale. I am always looking for pillows on sale.
Outdoor Couch//Flower Market buckets
The Flower Market buckets were on my front porch until the lemon trees showed up and I just moved them out here and I think they look pretty cute in their new home. Our outdoor couch is holding up really well too. We’ve had it for a few years and it’s one of my favorite places to attempt to take a nap.
Summer Dining Room
I carried the lemon theme into our dining room and I finally found the perfect dough bowl for my dining room table.
It was the perfect place to put some (fake) lemons
I don’t share a whole view of my dining room alot on here. It’s definitely the one room that never feels quite right to me. I’ve been experimenting with adding in more texture into this room to see if it helps and I think it’s getting there.
Living Room Summer Decor
I didn’t do a whole lot in our land of misfits room. I just added more plants in here. I officially have a plant problem. But at least I am purifying the air in my house.
I also desperately need to work on adding some new or different curtains in this room. I stole a panel from each window to put in my daughter’s room so I have had half naked windows since January. That’s definitely a summer project
Just a few small changes and alot of moving things around and the house is ready for the summer months….and it’s ready for the kids to trash it.
