The easiest way to hang a mirror with painters tape!
My dad is a saint, he hangs anything and everything for me. I’m pretty spoiled. But there are times when I want to hang something and I’m too impatient to wait for my parents to come for a visit. So I have been forced to learn how to hang things myself.
And since I am lazy and impatient, I found the easiest way to hang anything on your wall. I might even have to teach my dad this new trick to save him some time the next time he comes for a visit. He’s not completely off the hook.
I found the cutest mirror at Target. It had no choice other than to come home with me so he did. I had no idea where I was going to put him. I played a game of eeny meeny miny moe and I found the mirror’s permanent home in our kitchen.
I had a mirror hung there already so I was able to cheat a little and use one of the existing screws I had in the wall already. The process will be the same if you are starting with nothing already on your wall.
The first thing you need to know is that not all hooks that are attached to the back of your mirror/art are always level. You will want to make sure that the hooks are level. Don’t skip this step.
Luckily for me, my hooks were level. If yours are not, do not fret, you will just need to make a few extra steps.
Grab yourself some painters tape and put it across the hooks on the back of your mirror/art like so.
Make sure the tape is evenly placed on both hooks. Get a pencil and put a hole (or just a mark will work too) where you want the screws to go.
Remove your painters tape and put it up on your wall where your mirror is going to hang. Make sure your tape is level on the wall.
Now, if your hooks are NOT level on the back of your mirror, you will want to mark on your wall where you want the top of your mirror to be. Measure the distance from each hook to the top of the mirror and use those measurements to put your painters tape up on your wall. Make sense? So your painters tape will not be level on your wall since the hooks aren’t level. Once side might be 5 inches from the top of the mirror and they other side might be 4. Just depends on where the hooks were placed. You will skip the next step I’m about to mention.
As an extra step (but will save you some time if you goofed) I like to get a few nails and lightly nail them into my wall where I marked on my painters tape. For this example, I only had to add one nail since I was using one of the screws from the last mirror I had hung up.
Now get the your level and make sure the nails are level. If they are then you are good to go. If not, you will need to adjust. But at least you won’t have a huge hole to patch. Mine were level.
And now all that is left to do is add in your anchors and screws and hang your bad boy!
So easy! And no crazy measuring needs to be done. My dad would be so proud! And seriously how amazing is that mirror???
