Spring decorating ideas for your home (Easy ways to add touches of spring to your home without spending a ton of money)
Welcome to the Breath Of Fresh Air, Spring Blog Hop! If you are coming over from Leanne’s house at Pretty Olive, welcome! And thank you to Mansa at Simplicite for hosting this fun blog hop! I am so excited to be participating with all of these lovely ladies!
Have you heard the rumor? It’s supposedly spring! However, as I am typing this it is freezing outside so we are just going to pretend like it is spring. Every year around this time I get so annoyed with Mother Nature. I just wish she would start having some of those hot flashes. But the cold weather is not stopping me from pretending like hot sunny days are just around the corner.
Every spring I give my decor a little spring cleaning. I swap out the heavy blankets for lighter ones (even though I still need the heavy ones right now), change out some of my pillow covers (since I have a pillow addiction) and add in some (usually fake) flowers.
And I always change up my front porch each season. You should always expect that by now.

I didn’t go too crazy on my front porch this go around. I was wearing a hat and gloves while taking this picture and there were a few inches of snow behind me. I threw a basket of fake flowers on the porch, snapped a picture and ran back inside.
Come back in a few months and there will be more pictures of my front porch.
This past fall, I had to paint our door black and it killed me a little inside. I’m trying to look on the bright side and having the door open in the spring (or whenever it warms up) is an added bonus to the extra sunlight the storm door adds to our entry. I added some beads and ribbon to my wreath to lighten up the door since I still am secretly mourning the loss of my blue door.
I’ve wanted an olive tree for the corner in my front room for a while now. The other day I was at TJ Maxx and found that marbled side table on clearance for dirt cheap. I decided a pretty plant on a pretty table would be just as good for now.
Our front room is the room I like to refer to as the land of the misfits. All the furniture from our old house that had no place here in our new home got deemed to this room. I have some big plans for this room one day but I just need to get there mentally. I didn’t do a whole lot in here for Spring except add my floral printable back to my frame and switched around pillows (which I do daily anyways)
Something else I love doing seasonally is switching out the “art” in my frames. It’s so easy and affordable to do. You can see more about my DIY wall decor ideas here.
I have a love/hate relationship with our dining room. I love it because it is so much bigger than our old dining room and I hate it because it is so much bigger. I know, it makes no sense. I just can’t get it to give me those warm and fuzzy feelings.
I also have some future plans for this room. One day- but for now I made a new floral centerpiece with fake flowers and added some baskets to the wall to give this room some texture.
Just a few simple changes can help so much when you can’t figure out what direction you want to go in your room. My fake flowers also give me hope that one day I can put some real flowers in my vase. Did you hear me Mother Nature?
I also gave this little hutch a spring cleaning and added in some spring accessories. Again, just a few small changes.
Another thing I love doing each season is switching out my kitchen valance. I used the same fabric as I did last spring but I am searching for some new fabric this year. It just hasn’t found me yet.
You can see how I “made” my valance here. Every year I do it differently. I pretty much sling a few yards of fabric over a curtain rod and then get creative with how I make it look as if I didn’t just sling some fabric over a curtain rod. I know, I’m so professional.
Our family room is the hardest working room in our house. With three kids and a dog it gets quite the beating and I can’t even begin to tell you how many toys are under our couch right now. I am actually currently working on a blog post about this room so stay tuned.
But remember how I said I love switching out my art in my frames?? My mantel is no exception and this mantel gets changed out more frequently than my front porch. I love it now though (I think I say that every time I change my mantel-ha). I was torn with this mantel. I loved the mirror up there but I hated the reflection of the fan. Moving the mirror over and layering some more frames helps disguise the reflection of the fan (sort of)
Both of my new prints just make be feel happy and ready for spring! The black and white tulips print can be found here and I framed it in an IKEA Ribba frame. The pink and blue print can be found here and I have it framed in my favorite frames from Michaels. Don’t forget to read my DIY Wall Decor Ideas post to see how I get these printed out so easily.
And yes, I switched out my pillow covers for spring. It’s something I am always doing and will always do. It’s a problem I have and I am fully aware of it. It drives my husband crazy. You can see where I find my pillows in this post here.
And I can’t forget about the room I am supposed to do all of my work in. But I actually work on my computer in the dining room. I have no idea why I never work in my office. Maybe that’s why my desk is always clean. But the dining room table is a different story. I had a few buffalo check blankets on my chairs for winter but just by removing them instantly made my “office” feel like spring.
And there you have it. It was a pretty easy transition from winter to spring over here. And it doesn’t have to be complicated unless you want it to be! Now go head over to Teri’s house to see what she’s up to!
Happy Spring!
