FREE WALL ART PRINTABLES AND HOW TO EDIT YOUR OWN PICTURES FOR FREE

This post is two-fold in a way. Either you can pretend you were at the beach with me this summer and print out some of the pictures I (and my 11 year old) took…just join the list and you will automatically get access to all of my free printables.

And if you keep reading and you will get some tips on how to edit your own pictures straight from your iPhone. You can probably make the assumption by now that I am a budget decorator.  Free art from my iPhone is right up my alley. Last year I took a few pictures of some flowers around our yard and turned them into a watercolor using the MobileMonet app.  I have since purchased Adobe Lightroom and use that exclusively to edit all my pictures for my blog.  Lightroom isn’t free but there are so many free apps that you can use to edit your pictures. Lightroom also has a free app you can use and, ironically, I do not use it. Maybe because I paid for the real deal.

COLOR STORY

My favorite free app to use to edit my pictures is Color Story. I will be honest and admit that I have only skimmed the surface with this app.  But even with just the few things I know how to do in this app has made a huge difference with my pictures. I know some bloggers who, even after editing their pictures in Lightroom, still make some adjustments to their final picture in Color Story. Here’s a quick example. My 11 year old took this picture of the sunrise with her iPod the morning we were leaving to head home from the beach. Here it is straight out of her camera.

I really didn’t think this picture needed too much editing to begin with but I knew I wanted to brighten it up a tad. Here it is after I played around with it in Lightroom.

And here is the same picture edited in Color Story only.

Like I said before, I have just skimmed the surface with Color Story. For this picture I adjusted the curves in the tool settings. The curve tool alone is amazing and one that I use very often.  It can brighten the darkest of pictures.

I also used the Chiffon filter in the Fawn pack at half strength. Color Story comes with a few free filter packs but I did purchase the Fawn pack last year. It was only a few dollars to purchase the pack if I am remembering correctly.  There is so much you can do with all these filters. I like to play around to see what I like best.

The changes to the before and after picture is subtle, but perfect for me. Playing around in these apps is all trial and error.

SNAPSEED

My other free photo editing app that I love is Snapseed and, again, I have only skimmed the surface with this app as well. My favorite feature with this app is the brush, and it’s really my most used tool in that app. I can adjust the exposure to a specific area on any picture with just my finger. I am not a professional photographer at all and I am still figuring out my fancy camera. Bookshelves are hard for me to photograph because they create shadows. See what I am talking about. The shadows to the right of the framed art can drive me bonkers.

BUT with the help of the nifty little brush tool in Snapseed and my index finger…

The shadows have disappeared like magic (for the most part). I probably could have raised the exposure a little more.

There is so much you can do in Snapseed, much like Color Story. One day I will find time to play around more with both of these apps. For now, I am happy with what I know. I love how easy it is for me to edit my own pictures to use as decor around my house.

P.S. I secretly love the inexpensive frames from Walmart. I’m talking about these. I use them all of the time.  Some frames I spray painted gold and left some black. For the price though you can’t beat them.
