The Best (and affordable) Fake Garland For Your Christmas Decor
**Psst…I’ve updated this post for 2021 in a new post (you can see it here).***
Let us take a moment to talk about Christmas garland, shall we? This time of year is when I start getting asked about the best fake garland for Christmas.
You really have two choices when it comes to garland.
Fake or real.
And while most bloggers might tell you the best way to go is to go real….I am here to tell you the opposite.
Real garland is great, don’t get me wrong and I love the smell of fresh pine. But that stuff is meeeesssy. I have a hard enough time keeping my floors clean without dying garland strung about. I don’t need to add dead pine needles to the mix.
I’ve done my research these past few years on finding pretty and almost realistic looking fake garland (that won’t require me to sell my first born child to afford).
Fake garland has come along way in the past few years.
Faux Christmas Garland From Walmart
You can’t get any more affordable than Walmart. And let me just tell you, some of my favorite garland and wreaths have come from Walmart
(You can see more of my favorite Christmas finds in this post)
I have this garland over my kitchen sink and it is so good for the price. As inexpensive as it is, I was expecting a crazy flock mess when hanging it but surprisingly it isn’t very messy.
I just purchased this garland for my front porch this year. Once I get it up, I’ll let you know how I feel about it. But it’s prelit …and 9 ft long…and under $15. Winner, winner chicken dinner
A few more garlands from Walmart…I’m definitely loving this garland

Faux Christmas Garland From Hobby Lobby
If you have a Hobby Lobby near by, I find most of my garland for Christmas there. Most of the garland online is out of stock but there should be plenty still in the stores.
All of their garland is so good. You cannot go wrong.
This one is so good and affordable. And it might even pass as real. Here’s a close up
I have this garland on my mantel and it’s also a good one. It’s without a doubt my favorite garland. It’s pricier but it is half off so I did not feel as guilty buying it.
I love the different greens in this garland and how full it is.
I just used the same garland on my mantel again this year
This garland was about to come home with me too. Look how real it looks
Faux Christmas Garland From Amazon
Good ol’ Amazon. I can always find something good on Amazon.
I put this garland around my round mirror above my mantel.
I almost purchased this garland for my mantel this year but decided to use what I have. But this one looks so full it was hard to pass up.
This one is in my shopping cart as we speak. It looks like a good one to put around my mirror over my mantel. I’ll report back.
Faux Christmas Garland From Kirklands
The infamous Norfolk Pine garland goes in and out of stock often at Kirkalnds but it has a cult following and I purchased quite a bit of this garland the past few years.
It’s definitely one of my favorite garlands. I used it last year on my mantel
Faux Christmas Garland From Target
I think Target is the normal stop for Christmas garland. Hearth and Hand always has pretty garland and now Studio McGee has a line at Target (!!!!). It would seem like Target is a one stop shop for Christmas decor.
And it is
This garland has always been my favorite Hearth and Hand garland. It’s so full and realistic looking
This garland comes in as a close second.
I know Studio Mcgee’s line at Target is usually a hard one to find online so if you can grab this garland, do it.
Faux Christmas Garland From King Of Christmas
Last year I got a new flocked tree from King of Christmas (you can see more of my tree here) and I was really impressed with the quality. I never really thought to check out their garland selection and i am quite surprised.
If you see something you like, it’s best to grab it while you can. Items go out of stock quickly at King of Christmas
First off, this little bundle of goodness.
I guess I have a thing for flocked garland because this one also caught my eye immediately.
I can’t get over the price of this garland…and it’s 9 ft long which is hard to find in garland
You can see more garland from King of Christmas here.
Preserved Garland
For those of you that just can’t do fake garland and do not want the mess and maintenance of the real deal….this little section is for you. I will fully admit I have never used preserved garland before. I have used dried flowers here and there in my home but not garland.
However, after writing this post, I am kind of tempted to get me some preserved garland
Etsy might be your best place to shop for preserved garland. You might find yourself going down a rabbit hole….because I did.
This boxwood garland is a popular pick and very affordable
This magnolia garland is also a good option for the holidays and for year round.
While this garland is fresh, it can still be used well past Christmas
Also, side note since I just pulled out all of Christmas decor. I found this garland at TJ Maxx last year and it’s one of my favorites. I cannot find it online but this is your public service announcement to check TJ Maxx/Home Goods often. And if you see something you like, grab it!
And that’s a wrap. Happy decorating! Stay tuned…I’m joining up with some other bloggers again this year for another Christmas blog hop. Lots of inspiration coming your way in a few weeks.
But for now, go decorate your mantel
