Farrow and Ball Light Blue
All about Farrow and Ball Light Blue. A beautiful warm and subtle blue/green/gray paint color that has tons of depth to it.
Well I did it. I finally added some color to my TV room and dining room walls.
After 5 years of living with light gray (almost white) walls, I decided I needed some color in this house.
But, dang, it was hard to break up with my light walls. I had a hard time stepping out of my comfort zone. It’s easy to get comfortable with what you have.
My whole house is painted Silver Drop by Behr and I still do love that paint color.
I wanted a change and I knew I could change up just a few rooms.
I originally wanted to go dark. That thought lasted all of 5 seconds before I got too nervous to even look at dark paint samples. I wasn’t sure my eyes were ready for that kind of change.
Going from almost white walls to dark navy might have given me heart palpitations. But I still wanted to go moody…but not dark…if that makes sense.
I highly considered Farrow and Ball Pigeon. I thought maybe, just maybe, that was the color I needed.
Pigeon is one very popular color right now if you are paying attention. I love it in everyone’s home I see online. I even wrote a whole blog post about Farrow and Ball Pigeon.
And then I brought home a sample and was shocked to see how different it looked in my space. For some reason Pigeon was reading too dark for me and it just didn’t feel right for my space.
Then, one day and quite randomly I saw a picture of Light Blue by Farrow and Ball and thought let’s just try it.
So I purchased yet another sample and the rest was history….

How to sample Farrow and Ball Light Blue
I cannot stress enough how important getting a sample of any paint color is. What you see online is not what you will see in your home.
There are so many variables that can change the way paint looks in any room. One color can look completely different even in another room in your home.
Just get samples, end of story.
You can order samples directly from Farrow and Ball’s website. I am not sure of the delivery time with Farrow and Ball though.
I might order a sample to just see. That’s what good bloggers do.
Or you can order samples from Samplize (which I did). The samples get delivered to your door the next day. The samples are large so you can get a good feel of the color in your space too.
What color is Farrow and Ball Light Blue
Welp, this is actually a trick question. One would think that Farrow and Ball Light Blue would be light blue in color….but it’s not.
Well sort of, it just depends. See, this is why you need to get samples.
Light Blue is a warm and subtle color but has so much depth to it. It changes color throughout the day. It changes from silvery blue/gray to blue-green and to green-gray as the day progresses.
It depends on the lighting and the time of day. When the sun is shining in through my windows my walls look more blue.
At night with artificial lighting on, my walls looks more green/gray.
I feel as though Light Blue is one of those timeless colors and can go well with any decor.
I painted Light Blue in my TV room and dining room but both rooms take on a different feeling just with my decor.
I added DIY Wainscoting to my dining room and I feel as though Light Blue looks so “sophisticated” with the picture molding.
And in my TV room Light Blue feels calm and relaxing.
It really is such a pretty color.
Is Farrow and Ball Light Blue green
I know I already answered this but I will repeat myself. It just depends on the time of day and lighting.
Light Blue is a chameleon color and will change constantly. If you want a blue/gray paint color with no green in it, I do not think Light Blue is your answer.
The green undertones make this paint color so interesting though and gives it more depth.
What colors go with Farrow and Ball Light Blue
Funny enough, I found this color through Erin at Kismet House. She paired Light Blue with Farrow and Ball Pigeon in a bedroom makeover she did. I do not think I would have ever thought to pair those two colors together but it worked.
Light Blue would look good paired with a warm white, something like Sherwin Williams Alabaster
You can also pair it with a warm light gray. I was afraid of how Light Blue would look with my light gray walls everywhere else and I’m happy with how they look together.
Benjamin Moore Gray Owl would go well with Light Blue
Rich blues and greens look great with Light Blue too in your decor. I have blue velvet chair covers in my dining room and it’s a great contrast to the walls.
Can you color match Light Blue Farrow and Ball.
I am a huge Behr paint fan and you should already know this by now if you have read any of my other posts. I color match any and every color.
And 99.99% of the time, the color is matched perfectly.
This past time was the .01% exception. In Behr’s defense, I knew going in to this that Farrow and Ball paints are the hardest to color match.
I was willing to take my chances. The paint color Behr matched for me is not too far off from the original. You can see the difference in this picture.
The lady who mixed my paint was honest and showed me what she mixed compared to the sample I gave her.
I was fine with the differentiation. If you want the EXACT paint color down to the T, with Farrow and Ball, I suggest you order straight from their website.
Like I said, it was just a touch off and I was willing to take my chances and I love the color I received. If you want this exact color on my walls, here is my formula from Behr.
Farrow and Ball Light Blue Equivalent

DIY Painting Supplies
I listed out some of my favorite items I use when painting…
(This post contains affiliate links. You can see my disclosure policy here)
Benjamin Moore Classic Colors Fan Deck: Just in case you want to be even more overwhelmed you can order all of the Benjamin Moore classic paint colors
Same goes for Sherwin Williams Paint Deck
Paint brushes: I love all of Wooster’s paint brushes but this one is hands down my favorite one to use. It makes cutting in so much easier.
Painter’s tape: I hate taping and I really try to avoid it but when I can’t I make sure I use a good tape
Drop Cloths: Yes, you need them and you need many. I have used trash bags and old shower liners before too.
Cleaning Cloths: These are amazing every day cloths for cleaning but work great for baseboards and walls before painting.
Paint Cup: This paint cup is brilliant and has a magnetic strip so your paint brush stays safe from falling in your paint.
Multi Position Paint Brush tool: The best tool you will ever use if you have tall ceilings or just in general. I used something similar to this to paint my 15 foot ceilings in my family room and it was a life saver.
Paint Edger: This might get a bad rap but if you do it right, it has been a nice helper for me. Especially when trimming around windows and along baseboards.
Touch up cup: Nothing is worse than having to pull out the whole can of paint for a little touch up.
Good luck and happy painting!
