Entry Table Decorating Ideas
(An easy guide to decorating your console table and where to find affordable console and entry tables)
Anybody else secretly get online and just look at console tables? No? Just me?
I just love those little things. They can fit anywhere in your home and are perfect to decorate any way your little heart wants to.
I have a few console tables in my home and I want a few more. But, you know, I am sadly running out of room in this house.
I know I am an odd ball and decorating random tables around my house is seen as fun. But to some, the thought of adding pretty and practical decor to a random table can be painful.
So here I am….I’ll tell you all I know. It’s not much but maybe it’ll help you out and I will link up some pretty console tables for you too.

Types of Console Tables
Entry Table Decor Ideas
The most popular console table is the Entry Table. And as you might guess, this table gets put near your entryway. Imagine that.
Your entry table can come in all shapes and sizes depending on your space.
Some entries are big and grand and some are long and narrow. And sometimes you just need a small little table near your front door.

Round Entry Table Decor Ideas
If you have a large entry and if you have the space for it, a round table is always fun and different.
Round console tables are aesthetically pleasing and can break up the boxiness of your foyer if it’s rectangular (I know boxiness is not a word but you get what I am saying). Round entry tables are also good for families with young kids. My kids have ran into their fair share of tables when they were little.
One tip if you are looking for a round entry table is to think outside of the box. You might not find a table described exactly as a round console table. Measure your space and then go from there. You can use a round side table or a small round dining table as your entry table.

Round Entry Table Decor Ideas
A pretty vase with fresh(or fake) flowers and and a bowl for keys is all you really need. But if you need some extra storage you can put a pretty basket under the table or a bone box on your table to conceal all of your husband’s receipts he likes to dump out of his pockets each day. (One of my biggest pet peeves)

Long Rectangular Console Table
If you have a long or narrow hallway, a long console table makes perfect sense. A very popular console table is this one from World Market. I talked about it before in my post about my favorites from World Market.
My mom has this console table and it is still holding up so well. Here is a good picture of it in Sarah’s house.
If your table is against a wall, you can prop either a pretty mirror or artwork on it to give it some height and to draw your eye up making your entry look bigger.
You’ll want this to be your anchor piece.

I did a post recently onwhere you can find affordable (or free) art for your home if you want to find something affordable for your console table.
After you find your anchor piece, look for something to fill the space on either side of your anchor piece.
You can do two lamps like Sarah did in the picture above.
You can do one lamp on one side with a vase on the other side as seen here.
You can also just do one vase or lamp

Again, if you need storage a few baskets tucked under the console table is a pretty place for hats/gloves/flip flops. (And if you live in Ohio, you will use all of those things in one day)
A few bowls, books and/or boxes on your console table for keys and your husband’s receipts is all you really need to fill any blank spots on your console table.

Small Entry Table Ideas
Sometimes you only have room for a small entry table and sometimes those are my favorite spaces to decorate. Never underestimate a small area. I love Emily’s entry with the wallpaper and her small entry table.
Notice the large lamp on the table? Just because your table is smaller doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the decor pieces on that table. Sometimes all you need is one large statement piece and a few smaller pieces.
Sideboard Entry Table
You also might need to think outside of the box with your entry. If you need a ton of storage you might want to look for a sideboard or chest as your entry table.
I would decorate your sideboard just as a regular console table except you likely do not need extra baskets for storage. However there is no such thing as too many baskets though.
Again, look for that anchor piece and then go from there. Keep adding layers until you find the look you want.

Sofa Table Decor Ideas
The next kind of console table is Sofa Table. This is pretty much a console table that goes right behind your sofa.
There are a few different ways you can decorate a sofa table. I have two sofa tables in my house
For the table in the picture above I went light on my decor. Our kitchen table is right next to the sofa table and I know my kids like to attempt to watch TV as they eat lunch. Having a bunch of decor on that table just isn’t practical. Believe me, I tried.
A console table behind a couch is a perfect place for a lamp though if you need extra lighting. A large vase with fresh or fake flowers would also make a pretty statement piece.
If you read my post about how to make a small room look bigger, I mentioned moving your furniture a few inches off the wall. Doing that can leave you enough room for a thin console table to fit in between your couch and wall.
I made my console table and to be honest at any moment it will fall apart but for now it is getting the job done. If you have the option to put a console table in between your wall and couch I would highly recommend it.
Again, another great spot to put a lamp if you need the lighting and it adds so much interest to a space.

Other Places To Put A Console Table
Like I said in the beginning of my post, you can put a console table anywhere in your home.
I have console table in our dining room
Again, need a place for a lamp? Having a console table in my dining room gave me more storage for some of our big bowls and extra dishes.
You can use a console table as a TV stand as well.
Yep, the sky is the limit on these bad boys. And they are so easy to decorate for the holidays.
Now I feel like I need to go buy another console table!
