Kitchen Organization Hacks. I listed some easy hacks that will get your kitchen organized quickly and help it stay organized!
I feel like I have been organizing my kitchen since the day we bought our first house 15 years ago. It has been a never ending struggle…and still is in a way. When you have kids and/or a busy life, it is so easy to just let things go and the next you thing you know your house looks like a glorified flea market. You can’t even see your kitchen counters under the piles of papers and containers of slime.
There are days I walk into my home and think…Dang, did we get robbed? Nope, I just have messy kids (one of which is 6’4″ and he goes by the name as husband). I am also to blame though. Like I said, it is an easy habit to fall into.
I really do believe that everything should have a place. It makes staying organized so much easier. I know from experience that sometimes it’s not always that easy.
I know the kitchen can be a struggle. It is the most popular room in our home and therefore the place junk and random stuff seem to migrate too.
Our current home has all glass upper cabinets in our kitchen too. Now, that has been a challenge. And fortunately/unfortunately we do have alot of storage in our kitchen. I say unfortunately because I really do believe that when you have more places to put things, you find more junk to add to your space.
Our smallest house (the first house we ever owned) was my most organized house. I had limited storage so I was extra cautious about the junk we were accumulating and everything HAD to have a place. Granted, this was before kids so staying organized was so much easier
You can see more about getting rid of clutter here.
Back to the kitchen though. When it comes time to organizing your kitchen and likely the most popular room in your home as well, take it one section at a time. Go for little wins. You will feel more accomplished and will likely keep on going. I give myself 20 minutes a day to work on one drawer or area.
I’ll show you a few tips to get to those little wins…some of these tips I have been doing for a while and some are new to me as well.
How To Organize Your Kitchen One Step At A Time
(And in no particular order….)
How To Organize Your Spice Drawer
Oh, the dreaded spice rack/drawer. I’ve been struggling with this until we moved into our most recent home. We have a dedicated spot for all of our spices now
But we never used to. In our old home, we put our spices in our Lazy Susan and while that somewhat worked, many times I had to find a spice that fell behind the Lazy Susan…and many times I almost got my arm stuck back there.
This acrylic spice rack would be a perfect alternative. I like it’s sleek design. Not to mention it has some great reviews and can be installed anywhere you want
These spice gripper clips are a great idea if you don’t own 15,265 like we do. I guess even if you do own that many you can still use these.
This spice bottle kit is perfect if you want to make your spices look more organized (and cute)
This food storage turntable can be your best friend if you let it. You also do not need to use it solely for spices. Comes in clear as well
Hacks To Organize Your Pantry
Oh, the pantry. Everyone’s favorite dumping ground. Our pantry is actually a work in progress. I have big plans for it. We have a large walk in pantry and while I love it, I hate it. Like I said before, all that room equals more places to accumulate “stuff”. And with such a large space, I need alot of basket/bins. Unfortunately, that stuff is not free so I have been slowly working on finding the right pieces at the right price.
I love baskets more than I can even begin to tell you. They are perfect storage piece for a pantry. I have these baskets saved and ready to purchase once the urge to organize our pantry strikes
These containers are perfect for storing cereal. They also help to keep your cereal fresh longer and are easier for kids to use.
I love these containers for storing baking items. I have our flour and sugar in similar containers and it’s so much easier to grab flour or sugar when it is stored like this.
We store our extra plastic bags in our pantry (ours is mounted to our wall) but this over the door organizer is great if space is limited.
If you have a love relationship with canned goods like my family does, this organizer will be another great friend.
Hacks To Organize Your Drawers
Let’s start with your junk drawer because I believe everyone should have at least one junk drawer in their kitchen. Where else will you put your chapstick? For some reason though when you group your junk together in little plastic bins, it just looks better.
It wasn’t until I was organizing my utensil drawers that I realized how many utensils we actually have. I grabbed some extra craft paper I had on hand to line the bottom of my utensil drawer for a little change since I was using these clear organizers. I found my organizers at TJ Maxx but you can find them on Amazon too.

Hacks To Organize Your Cabinets (especially if they are glass)
I sometimes wonder if when I was registering for our wedding 17 years ago I subconsciously knew someday I would have all glass cabinets. Most of everything I own in our kitchen is either glass or white. All of our dishes and serving platters are white and for some reason I own more glasses than I remember ever purchasing. Having clear and white pieces has helped my cabinets feel more cohesive and organized.
And I do own some coffee mugs and bowls that are colorful and those work too in our cabinets
My biggest tip is to group your similar items together for a cohesive look. All of our glasses are in one cabinet, all of our plates are in another. You get it.
Keep what you use everyday in reach too. So yep, those colorful coffee mugs are front and center because we use them every morning. But I have 8 of them and they are all grouped together making them look organized.
And all of those pretty platters you registered for that you use twice a year can go up high. But they are pretty and will look great behind those glass doors.
We are passed the sippy cup and plastic bowl phase in our life. However, we do own more plastic water bottles than I care to admit and I have those stored in our hutch in our dining room and some are in our Lazy Susan…and some might even be in our pantry. Sometimes you just need to get creative.
And sometimes you just need to get smart. I know exactly where I can stash something and when the cabinet doors are shut, you can’t see them.
Can you find the stash of gum and toothpicks in these cabinets?
See how smart I am?
There they are
I know where I can put things that the eye can’t see. And if you can see my stash of gum…I don’t really care. I’m at that point in my life. Let your gum show if you want to…
Hacks To Organize Counters
Making your countertops pretty and functional is an art form and I could probably do a whole post on just this. If you have limited storage some of your kitchen items can be used as decor on your counters.
Wood cutting boards look great propped up against your backsplash. And extra serving bowls can be used as a fruit bowl
Throw your sugar and flour in pretty canisters and group them on your counter. Group your wood utensils in a pitcher where you can reach when cooking
I used a paint pen to write on my canisters. It’s a quick and affordable way to label your items.
Use a cake stand by your sink to hold your soaps for cleaning dishes
Even if you are not limited on space, you can use any of these ideas to decorate your counters.
If you are anything like my family and have more junk than what would fit inside a junk drawer, gather all that junk into a cute basket on your counter. It’s also a great place to store napkins, tissue boxes and postage stamps. You know, the important stuff. Oh, and chapstick. You can never have too many places for your chapstick
Hacks To Organize Your Under Sink Area
Anybody else secretly hate their under sink area as much as I do?!? I think that is where old sponges go to die. And where my spray bottles have babies because everytime I go to grab something, I find another random spray bottle.
I’ve seen on Pinterest where people install a tension rod in their under sink cabinet to hang all those random bottles.
The storage turntable would also be genius for this space.
You can’t have too many plastic bins. These are great anywhere in your kitchen but would be especially a good idea for under your sink to corral all of those extra spray bottles.
