The best places to find affordable and durable area rugs for your home decor; including farmhouse, modern and vintage inspired rugs
I am huge believer that area rugs can add warmth and texture to any room. They also help define your space and can be added to any room (including over wall to wall carpet)
I have purchased my fair share of area rugs since we moved into this house. I purchased more than I care to admit, actually.
However, I am cheap (ish). I say “ish” because I was never really one to be on a budget…until I got married. So the “ish” came when I said “I do”.
And now we have three kids and a messy dog so not only am I cheap-ish I am also practical-ish. No way will I spend a fortune on an area rug for it to get covered in slime or dirty paws.
Hence, this post was born. All of my rugs in my home are affordable and kid friendly. I did a whole post on how to find the perfect rug for your home a few months ago. It’s hard to find large area rugs in most stores so looking online is your best bet to find affordable area rugs.
And if you are interested in outdoor rugs, you can see my favorite outdoor rugs here.

1.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Amazon
If you aren’t new to my blog, you know that Amazon is my go to for home decor and rugs are no exception. Amazon has a great selection of area rugs and I should know since the majority of my rugs I own are from Amazon. (You can see some of the area rugs sold on Amazon here)
I have this rug in my dining room and the price is insane for such a large and pretty rug. It’s not a very thick rug but is perfect under my dining table. This rug also cleans very well. I don’t want to tell you how I know this but it involves my dog and lots of carpet cleaner.
This rug is in my front room and while I do not recommend a white rug with kids and a dog, I purposely have this rug in a room that is rarely used. However, the dog still did something she shouldn’t have and this rug did not clean as well as my dining room rug. It’s clean now but it took alot more carpet cleaner for this one. BUT this rug is also reversible. I am not sure if it’s advertised that it’s reversible but both sides are the exact same so to me that means it’s reversible. I kind of feel as though I bought two rugs for the price of one.
And last but not least is my entryway rug. I struggled with my decision for this rug for some reason and it turned out to be one of my favorite rugs. This rug cleans well (again, don’t ask how I know-are you seeing a trend here?) and the pattern helps to hide dirt. It’s a perfect rug for an entry.
I found this rug for my kitchen while shopping at TJ Maxx last winter and I found it on Amazon as well. Having a runner by your sink is such a good idea for so many reasons. I highly recommend getting one that cleans easily or one with pattern to hide dirt (and whatever else your kids drop on the floor when trying to load the dishwasher for you). This rug hides everything.
2.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On H&M
H&M is a great place to look for affordable home decor and their rug selection keeps growing. I personally haven’t purchased any rugs from H&M but I love their pillow covers so I am going to go ahead and say their rugs will be just as good.
This rug would look cute in your kitchen or by your bed
This rug is so pretty and I love the colors
This rug is similar to the rug above but if neutral is your thing, this rug is for you.
3&4.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack
Another one of my favorite places to look for area rugs is Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom has a limited supply of area rugs but with great prices. If you see something you like grab it, because they do not last long.
Nordstrom has a wider selection of area rugs. My favorite rugs to look for at Nordstrom are Dash and Albert rugs. Every once in a blue moon, Nordstrom will have a sale and that’s when I go looking for rugs.
I have this rug in my office and love it.
This rug would look so cute layered on your front porch (similar to my rug on my front porch)
5.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Wayfair
Wayfair is another great place to look for area rugs (and home decor in general). I found my living room rug on Wayfair and it is holding up so well.
Once a year Wayfair offers their Wayday when they mark alot of their merchandise way down. It’s usually in the spring but regardless I find that Wayfair prices are pretty reasonable.
This rug is ever so popular and I see it all over blog world.
If you see something you like on Wayfair, google it. Chances are you might find a better deal on it from one of Wayfair’s cousins (Joss and Main, All Modern etc)
6.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Pottery Barn
While Pottery Barn isn’t the most budget friendly place to purchase rugs, if you play your cards right you can actually get a great deal. Pottery Barn frequently will have their Premier Day Sales much like Wayfair’s Wayday. My mom scored a beautiful rug for her home during one of their premier days (and it’s on sale again).
You can see more of Pottery Barn rugs here
7.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On World Market
I love World Market for many things but what I really love are their sales. Because when they have sales, they have sales. Most of the furniture in my home is from World Market and I have yet to have regretted a purchase. They also have some beautiful area rugs (which are currently on sale depending on when you are reading this).
I was having a hard time narrowing down my favorites. I love this rug just for the shape. Round rugs look great in rooms with curved walls to mimic the shape of the room.
I love the layered rug look and these rugs look great alone or layered.
8.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Ebay
I’ll be honest here, I have never purchased a rug from Ebay before. I looked into it but never pulled the trigger. Ebay is a great place to find vintage rugs at a somewhat decent price. True vintage rugs come with a price tag. You can see more tips on purchasing rugs from Ebay here
9.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Target
This is an obvious choice. Target has everything under the sun and obviously they have rugs. Their online rug selection is much more expansive than what they carry in store.
This rug is beautiful and the price is absolutely insane
This rug is very popular and looks somewhat different than what it shows online so I would definitely read the reviews and look at the real life pics.
10.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Walmart
Walmart has been stepping up their game lately with their home decor. I find alot of cute things from Walmart for my home including area rugs. There are so many rugs to choose from that you can easily go bonkers looking through them all.
This rug is beautiful and the texture on it is amazing. I honestly can’t say I see rugs like this too often. It also comes in gray
Walmart also has their MoDRN line of home decor and I love this rug.
This rug too is so pretty.
11.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On Urban Outfitters
Back when I was on a hunt for my entry way rug, I stumbled across Urban Outfitters and found so many cute area rugs.
This rug is gorgeous. The largest size is a 5×7 but would look so good layered over a larger rug.
I love the colors of this rug and would also make a great rug for a large entry.
12.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs On TJ Maxx
It wasn’t until just a few months ago did I realize that you can find home decor on TJ Maxx’s website. It’s a total game changer. And you guessed it, you can find area rugs on their website. They change out their merchandise frequently so when you see it and love it, get it. It doesn’t last long.
I have this rug in my daughter’s room and I know I paid more for it in the store than what it is online.
(You can see more about my daughter’s bedroom makeover here)
13.) Farmhouse, Modern and Vintage inspired Area Rugs at Overstock
Overstock has a huge selection off area rugs. I just purchased this infamous rug in a runner size and I have a feeling I will be purchasing a bigger size for somewhere in my home. This rug is gorgeous, affordable and is very popular right now.
(You can see all of the rugs from Overstock here)
Also, don’t forget a rug pad. I did and now I am too lazy to pull the rugs up to lay one underneath so purchase one with your rug. They protect your floor and keep your rug in place. This rug tape is also perfect to keep your rugs in place and to prevent the corners from curling.
