Simple Cleaning Tips To Clean Your Home Fast!

July 26, 2018

How To Clean Your House Fast and Easy~Simple Cleaning Tips And Tricks To Clean Your Home As Quickly As Possible (even with messy tiny humans)

I remember the days when I would spend all weekend cleaning…washing my floors on my hands and knees, wiping down the blinds, scrubbing baseboards….and then….I had kids…and then…my husband brought home a puppy.

That other person, the one that cleaned like a mad woman, no longer exists. The last time I washed my floors on my hands and knees was when the dog had an accident.  I’m not saying that my house is constantly trashed (well sometimes it is) but I got smarter in my old and tired age.

There is no point in scrubbing my house top to bottom every day when the kids will trash it again in 30 seconds. But if you are anything like me, I crave a clean house. It makes me feel like I have my life somewhat in control when it’s clean. So while this post isn’t about home decor or about a DIY project, there is just something about a clean house.

I like my house and all my decor better when it’s clean. I figured out a way to clean my house as fast and effectively as possible. And that requires a few tricks.

My bag of tricks to clean my house quickly and easily includes:

  • E-cloth Cleaning Set
  • E-cloth Mop
  • Essential Oils
  • Natural Air Purifier Bag
  • Awesome cleaner
  • Stick vacuum
  • Oil Diffusers
  • Plastic spray bottles
  • Rubber Gloves

Another disclaimer: This is how I clean my house. I am not a professional and I have no idea if what I am doing kills all the germs in my house. And please be careful on any of your surfaces if you are using oils. Always make sure you can use oils on your floors, furniture, etc.  I try to clean as naturally as possible but every once in a while I have to bring out the big guns…aka chemicals.

Best Cleaning Products For Your Home -eCloth

E-cloth Set: I bought these cloths on a whim and you can add me to the long list of positive reviews for these little guys. I have purchased Norwex cloths in the past and I really do like their cloths as well. These cloths are Norwex’s dupe. The price of these e-cloths as well as the fact that they will arrive on my front porch in two days can’t be beat.  I use every single one of the cloths in this set. My favorite is hands down the window and polishing cloth. It’s magic. I get it just a little damp and wipe down whatever I can and as quickly as possible. This cloth alone can make me feel the most productive.

E-cloth Mop: Another magical product. I will be completely honest and say that I purchased the mop cloth only and used an old mop handle I’ve had. I was being cheap (resourceful as my husband calls it) but one day I will buy the whole set.

Essential Oils For Cleaning Floors and Counters

Essential oils: I have been using oils to clean before oils were ever popular. My favorite cleaning oil is peppermint oil. I put a few drops in a spray bottle and for the most part that is my everyday cleaner unless I am dealing with really gross germs….I pull out the Clorox wipes for that. During flu and cold season I also dilute some Germ Fighter in a spray bottle. I put a few drops of oils on my vacuum filters before I vacuum, a few drops on my e-cloth mop before I mop the floor, and in my sink after I do dishes at night. Sometimes I want to clean to just smell the oils. I have been using Plant Therapy essential oils for my cleaning and have been very happy with them. I can do a whole post on cleaning with essential oils one day…stay tuned…

Natural Air Purifier Bag: This guy is somewhat new to our family. I just purchased one to see if he’ll fit well in our home. So far, he seems to be doing pretty well. Three kids, a dog, well water, and a bad aimer all add up to a stinky house every now and then. I’m hoping to have one of these in every room soon. I’ll report back once I see how he does.

Awesome cleaner: This is also a new friend. My mother in law actually alerted me about this product. She gets hers at the dollar store and so did I but I had a hard time believing that a cleaner from the dollar store works. I was surprised to see such great reviews on Amazon.  I will have to say I have been nothing but impressed with this bottle of yellow liquid (if you have kids, expect them to ask you if it’s dog pee because mine did…I told them it was).

Stick Vacuum: Oh my best friend. Did I really deep down want the Dyson stick vacuum? Of course I did. Did I want to have to sell a body part to get one? Not really. Did I also want the Shark stick vacuum? Yep. Does my husband listen to me when I talk? Not always.

I think I might have dropped a bunch of hints about wanting a cordless vacuum to him but I guess he didn’t listen 100%. He brought me home this Bissell for Christmas one year and I will have to say I have been pleasantly surprised with it. We are going on year 2 and this guy is still going strong.  Every night I whip this bad boy out and vacuum the whole first floor in one charge. It’s magical.

(Update, unfortunately my Bissell bit the bullet recently and I scored a good deal on a Dyson on Black Friday. While I love my Dyson, I can’t say it’s the most amazing vacuum I have ever used. There are other stick vacuums out there that probably work just as well)

Oil Diffuser: I have a few different oil diffusers and I buy all of mine from Amazon. The smaller ones won’t fill up a huge room but they are perfect next to your bed at night or in a bathroom. I also put a few drops of oil in a spray bottle and spray around the house as I start to think things are getting smelly.

This diffuser is still one of my favorite diffusers and this one is really good for large rooms.

Rubber Gloves: The gloves are for more than cleaning up after my tiny humans. I learned this trick recently from Thrifty Decor Chick and it’s beyond genius. Our furry friend isn’t allowed on our couches but she listens as well as my kids do. Therefore, there is usually dog hair on our couches. Once every few days I clean the couches good and then give them a quick spray with this. If you haven’t ever used this stuff it’s amazing for all kinds of stains and odors. Make sure it is safe to use on your furniture.

I’ll also be honest, there is no way in the stage of life I am in right now that I can clean my whole home in one day. Maybe I could without any distractions but remember, I have children.

I find it best to clean my house in groups. If I’m pulling out my mop, I will mop all of my floors. If I’m cleaning one bathroom, I clean all four. If I’m dusting one room, I dust all rooms. If I vacuum one bedroom, all bedrooms get vacuumed.

Before I do this though, I go through my house and pick up as much as I can. I’m pretty good about keeping the clutter at bay. The hardest part in cleaning your house is picking up after your kids, correct? If I can start with a picked up house then my cleaning goes so much quicker.

And when I am done cleaning my house I like to jump off of our couches too!
