Front Porch Makeover Ideas On A Budget
6 Things Every Front Porch Needs. Easy ways to decorate your front porch for every season
(This post contains affiliate links. You can see my full disclosure here)
My front porch. You might have seen it before. It was and still is one of my favorite things to decorate
I think I decorated this front porch 789,899 times since we moved in and I am not being sarcastic.
Well, maybe just a little bit.
The front porch decorating streak continues though
It’s fun to change things up and one of my front porch makeovers was even mentioned in an issue of HGTV magazine.
It was a teeny tiny mention but I didn’t care. You can cross that off my bucket list.
Every time I decorate my front porch I use the same technique to get the look I want. I just change things up as I feel like it.
As I always say, it’s your home so decorate it with whatever you want and however you want.
This is what I do and I hope it helps some of you. You can copy everything down to the moss in my planters or you can just take a few ideas and run with it.
6 Things Every Front Porch Needs
Layered Doormat
The layered doormat look has been around for years now.
It might be getting old now and a little bit overdone but I will not stop layering my doormats
I love the look
This technique is what landed me in HGTV
See I wasn’t lying
I have a collection of doormats and coir rugs but this year I went with this combination and I really love it.

Planters
Another front porch item I will not skip on are planters.
White Planter//Faux Terracotta Planter
I did just update my planters this year and my goodness these planters are so good.
When I see something at Walmart that I like, I grab it because I know it will sell out so quickly.
Walmart has really stepped up their game in the outdoor department. I can’t get over their items and prices.
These planters are no exceptions.

Plants (Real of Fake)
This is where things might get controversial.
Some people hate fake plants and some people love fake plants (I’m the latter).
I have tried real plants out on my front porch and it just does not work. Within weeks they are dead.
So I threw in the towel and decided to go faux. It makes things so much easier.
And I never have to worry about watering anything.
I found all of my faux plants at Hobby Lobby but these trees look very similar and these faux cedar bushes have a cult following.
I also highly considered these topiary trees as they can be great for year round.

I do weigh down my planters with stones and added some Spanish moss. However…I quickly realized the moss might have been a bad idea.
The birds have taken a good chunk of it for their nest. They probably saw me coming from a mile away with that bag of moss.
I tried
Front Door Wreath
I have had this wreath on my door in the spring/summer months for 6 years now.
Sometimes I put it on the glass door and sometimes it goes on the actual door, just depending on the weather.
I did add a bow to my wreath just for fun.
You can find wreaths everywhere and anywhere. I usually get mine at Target.
This one is very similar to what I have with the bow already attached (and yes I copied).
One year I think I attempted to make a wreath but it did not go well so now I just stick to buying wreaths.
I change out my front door wreath each season and just keep rotating the same ones each season.
When you find something you love, why change it?
Rocking Chairs/Seating
These chairs where not my first choice.
Actually they were not my choice at all but my husband randomly brought them home one day and I threw in the white flag.
I would have picked something else but I can say that having these chairs out here is nice.
If you have a spot for lounging on your front porch I highly recommend some outdoor seating…even if it is a few chairs that your husband randomly brought home.
Once these things bite the dust I have a few other ideas for out here.

Outdoor Pillows
You know what goes great with outdoor seating? That’s right….outdoor pillows.
I knew when my husband brought home those rocking chairs I would be able to jazz them up a bit with some fun pillows.
I have had these black and white striped pillows for years now and I still love them.
So why change them, correct?
And most importantly, none of them have blown away…which is quite shocking.

Bonus Points…
Lanterns
I used to have lanterns on my front porch year round and I did love how they looked.
I did have to get rid of those lanterns as they have seen their final days. I do plan on replacing them one of these days.
In the winter, sometimes I put these lanterns on my front porch.
I have no idea why I bring them in the spring and summer but I do.
There is no method to my madness
I did just find outdoor solar lanterns and have them in my cart. I’ll update once I get them
Lighting
I do have lighting on my front porch but I would love to update my lights soon. I have been thinking about this for years and I just need to pull the trigger.
Another thing I would love is string lights out here but I just haven’t gotten there yet either.
But I did just add these solar lights to my cart as well.
Here’s hoping for lots of sunshine!
That’s it…that is how I decorate my front porch every season.
It’s the same combo, but just different items as I see fit.
