Bye Bye Christmas: Tips on Decorating Your Home for the Rest of the Year
Welp, it’s that time of year. It’s bittersweet.
I usually am ready to get rid of the all of the Christmas decor once it’s all said and done but I do miss the coziness of it all.
I love my house when it’s decorated for Christmas. It’s cozy and festive and full of twinkling lights.
It’s just my favorite.
And I hate shoving all that cozy and festiveness back in bins in the basement in January
But fear not, because there are plenty of ways to decorate your home after Christmas that will keep the cozy and festive spirit alive all year round.

Assessing the Post-Christmas Chaos
The first step in transitioning your decor is to remove all the Christmas decorations. Yes, even the tree (or multiple trees in my case)
I know it’s sad, but it has to go.
This time of year is a fresh start in so many ways but January is when I do the most rearranging and assessing of my home decor.
I have a love/hate relationship with my house on January 1st.
I do love the fresh start but the house is so bare and feels almost cold…and sad.
The house was just a winter wonderland and now it’s just empty.
Bring in the coziness
Once you’ve cleared out all the Christmas decorations, it’s time to bring in some cozy elements. Think warm blankets, fluffy pillows, and soft rugs.
These items will help create a cozy atmosphere in your home, perfect for those chilly winter nights.
Another way to add some coziness to your home is by incorporating warm lighting. Swap out your bright, white light bulbs for warmer, yellow-toned bulbs. You can also add some candles to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Soft Lighting Options
Winter is all about creating a warm and cozy atmosphere, and soft lighting is a great way to achieve this. You can use a variety of lighting options to create a soft and inviting glow in your home.
Table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights are all great options for creating soft lighting.
Table lamps are perfect for creating a warm and cozy atmosphere in your living room or bedroom.
You can choose from a variety of lampshades to create the perfect ambiance for your space.
Floor lamps are also a great option for creating soft lighting in larger rooms. You can use them to create a cozy reading nook or to add a warm glow to your living room.

String lights are a fun and festive way to add soft lighting to your home during the winter. I love putting my string lights in a vase just to give a little glow.
Creating a Glow with Candles
Candles are another great way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in your home during the winter.
They are perfect for creating a cozy ambiance in your living room, bedroom, or bathroom.
You can choose from a variety of scents and styles to create the perfect ambiance for your space.
If you want to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your living room, try placing a few candles on your coffee table or mantel.
Color Schemes and Textures
You don’t have to ditch all the red and green in your decor either, but consider incorporating more wintery hues like blues, grays, and whites.
These colors will give your home a fresh, crisp feel that’s perfect for the season.
Think about adding cozy blankets and pillows in these shades to your living room or bedroom.
You can also swap out your curtains or table linens to reflect the winter palette. And don’t forget about your walls! A fresh coat of paint in a cool tone can do wonders for transforming a space.
You can also incorporate deeper, richer colors like navy, burgundy, and forest green. These colors will help create a cozy and sophisticated atmosphere in your home.

Bring in some winter elements too.
Think natural materials like wood, wool, and fur. These materials will not only add some texture to your decor, but they’ll also help create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
You can also add some winter-themed decor, like pinecones and cedar greenery. These items will help bring the outdoors inside and add a touch of winter magic to your home.
The Art of Repurposing
I know I said in the beginning of this blog post to get rid of all of your Christmas decor but you don’t have to put it ALL away.
Keep out the cedar stems
String lights are fair game year round.
You can even keep out some of your Christmas ornaments in a bowl as decoration
And there you go! You have successfully transformed your home from a winter wonderland to a cozy abode. Remember, after Christmas home decor doesn’t have to be boring or bland. You can still keep the festive spirit alive with a few simple touches.
