Kitchen Counter Styling~ 13 of My Easy Tips to Styling Your Kitchen Counters
I know I have said this before but if you’re new here, I am not a huge fan of my kitchen. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
It’s a very nice kitchen, it’s just not 100% my style.
But I have pivoted and I am getting to a point where I might kind of like my kitchen.
A few years ago we replaced our kitchen counters. That was quite the disaster and I still have nightmares about it.
We started out with quartzite counters and shortly after had to rip them out and start over. I ended up replacing my quartzite with dolomite countertops.
Again, it was a disaster that you can read about one day when you are bored (click on those links above).
Once I had my new counters installed and my heart rate came back down to normal, the fun part started.
I could not wait to decorate my new counters. I knew that would help make this kitchen of mine feel like more of my style.
Not only is decorating your kitchen counters fun, it can enhance the overall look of your kitchen while also keeping it functional.

Here are some of my tips I’ve learned over the years

Keep it Clean and Clutter-Free:
This is a tough one. Especially if you live with tiny humans…or big ones. They are all messy.
Start by clearing off all unnecessary items from your counters. Only keep essential items that you use daily.
In my house that would only be the coffee pot…and wine opener.
Kidding…but not really.
Group Similar Items Together:
This is a much easier task than keeping your counters clean.
Arrange items in groups according to their function or visual appeal. For example, group together cooking utensils, jars, or decorative items.
Candle Warmer//Wooden Spoons//Dish Cloth
Use Trays or Baskets:
Place items on trays or in baskets to keep them organized and visually appealing. This can also help contain clutter and make cleaning easier.
Marble Tray//Salt and Pepper Grinders
Not pictured is a basket of all of our coffee essentials next to our coffee pot.
Why didn’t I get a picture of it? Because it’s a disaster right now and I didn’t have the energy to make it blog pretty.
And that’s fine too. Even bloggers leave their Maxwell House coffee canister right on the counter,
Add Greenery and/or florals:
This tip is my favorite.
I’m a sucker for a good faux floral as you can probably tell from these pictures.
I have these tulips next to my sink and they are seriously some of my favorite fake florals I own.
I do switch out my faux florals with each season and it’s the easiest way to add some changes to your kitchen.
You can also incorporate fresh herbs, potted plants, or a vase of real flowers to bring life and color to your kitchen.
Succulents or small potted herbs can add a natural touch without taking up too much space.
Display Cookbooks:
I guess you need to cook to use this tip…or not….you can fake it.
I thought about it.
I knew my kids would call me out though. But there are so many cute cookbook stands that I am still tempted.
You can display cookbooks on a cute stand or on a shelf or even leaning up against your counter.
Utilize Vertical Space:
Hang items such as mugs, pots, or utensils on hooks or racks mounted on the wall to free up counter space and add visual interest.
I might install a rod under this open shelving we have for more storage (but that’ll require me to look for a rod)
Showcase Your Pretty Things:
Display decorative items such as a stylish salt and pepper grinder, a decorative bowl of fruit, or unique kitchen gadgets to add personality to your space.
Jars//Napkin Holder//Tissue Box Cover
You can never have too many pretty things on your kitchen counter
Rotate Seasonal Decor:
Change up your kitchen decor with the seasons or holidays. I do this quite a bit and it is so easy to do quick refresh each season.
I like changing things up in my house and this is such an easy way to do it.
Display seasonal fruits or decorative items that reflect the current season. And like I said, don’t forget to change out your florals
Add Lighting
I cannot tell you what one little lamp on your counter can do to your kitchen…especially at night.
I feel like I’m less angry cleaning dishes when I have my little lamp on next to me.
I’d take a little lamp on my counter over under counter lighting any day.
Picture Easel//Lamp is thrifted (but here is a similar lamp)
Add Artwork
Something else that just makes me happy is artwork in my kitchen.
Orange Art (goes in and out of stock)
Yes, I know putting a picture right above my stove isn’t the best idea but it is holding up just fine.
If you want to stay on the safe side, leaning art on your counter against your backsplash is a great idea…especially if you have an outlet you want to hide.
(More on that in a bit)
Keep it (somewhat) Functional:
While styling your kitchen counters, make sure to prioritize functionality. Ensure that the items you keep on the counter are easily accessible and serve a practical purpose in your daily cooking routine.
BUT…
Maintain Balance:
If you are like me and want pretty things and functional items on your kitchen counters, all you need to do is maintain some balance
Keep a balance between decorative elements and functional items to maintain a clean and organized look.
Hide What You Don’t Like
I hated our original backsplash when we first moved in. So much so that I painted it.
We also had an ugly outlet every 3 inches it seemed. I have no idea why so many outlets were needed but the original owner must have loved her outlets
I tried to cover as many of the outlets that I could with cutting boards and art.
We have since gotten a new backsplash that I love. I also had our contractor cover up some of the un-needed outlets.
What outlets we did keep were switched out with prettier outlet covers. Now, I do not feel the need to hide anything.
I do use art if I am trying to hide cords or a plug. Propping the art on an easel makes it easier if you can’t lean it.
There you go, just some of my tips on how I like to style my kitchen counters. Hope this helps and let me know if you see something that isn’t linked.
