FRONT PORCH MAKEOVER WITH BUDGET FRIENDLY DECOR IDEAS
Welp, my front porch is getting a mini makeover and just in time for fall. Not because I wanted a change but because we got a storm door. I know that makes no sense at all. Once that storm door got installed, the whole porch took on a different look…and not in a good way. I secretly didn’t want this storm door. I knew what was going to happen. I lost the battle. While I am not a fan of the look of the door, I cannot complain too much. The extra light and breeze we get into the entry way has been nice. This might be a front porch mini makeover but it’s really me going into recovery mode. I had to make this storm door work and look a little bit more modern and maybe look like it belongs in our family.

First up was painting my door black. I will not lie to you that painting this door black was the hardest thing I had to do. I loved my blue door, but I only loved my blue door when it was by itself. Once it got covered by a storm door it looked like a teenager going through that awkward phase with braces and frizzy hair (and even pegged acid washed jeans). I had to paint him black to blend in better with our black storm door. That was the only definite thing I knew I was doing with my front porch.
I lost a lot of sleep thinking about this front porch. Now that the door was black I knew I needed something to soften it up. Too many ideas were floating around my head. I needed a mood board. I do not do mood boards often, actually hardly at all. I should do these more often though. It really does help. I do my mood boards in Canva. It’s free to use and very user friendly.
I started this mini makeover with a new outdoor rug. I loved the combo I have had for the past few years but I thought if I was going to start fresh, I might as well go big or go home. And this plaid rug has been so popular with you guys that I knew I needed to try it myself. I also found this cute new coir rug and grabbed it at Hobby Lobby when it was on sale.
I found this door knocker at an INSANE price at Rejuvenation and knew I had to add it to my wish list. A wreath is very much needed to soften up the black door too. I cannot decide which one I want though. This or this or this. Ahh! I hate making decisions.
I’m also on the fence about these faux boxwood topiaries on either side of my door. They have great reviews but do I want that much greenery around my door??
My second option is to get these cute buckets to put by my door with some fresh (more likely faux) flowers and greenery like my favorite designer did. These buckets come in a few different designs. I love the winter and Christmas ones but for the price I am tempted to go non-seasonal so I can use them year round. I can’t decide though. I’m also wondering if I can DIY something. Stay tuned.
My sconces I have on either side of the door need updated too. I love these but maybe I should do black? Or maybe I like the contrast of the brown with the black door? Too many decisions!!
I updated the plants I have in my white planters with Croton plants. I am a newbie Croton owner so I hope they don’t die before I can decide on the rest of the porch. If you are a owner of a black thumb too maybe you should consider these faux plants instead. They will be next on my list once I kill the real deal. I love the fall colors of these plants and it’s a nice little change from what I usually do in the fall…good ol’ mums. I kill those very quickly too. I know faux can get a bad rap but let me tell you, there are some faux plants that are more realistic than the real ones. Don’t fear the faux!
And since fall is approaching a few white pumpkins sprinkled on my porch never hurts. And once you ditch those pumpkins, this front porch will look great year round!

Wish me luck with this as I am sure it will change 142,265 more times before I post the final outcome. But I am starting to really like what I’ve drummed up so far with my mood board. For those of you that are as indecisive as I am, mood boards are great!!
