Where to find affordable modern farmhouse curtains and tricks to hang your curtains.
The icing on the cake, the cherry on top, the lipstick on the pig…wait that doesn’t sound right. But you get the idea. You know what I am talking about, right? Curtains…obviously.
Sometimes your room just needs curtains. Ones that you can buy. I’m more of a make your own curtains gal. (See this post for some DIY curtain ideas). But sometimes you just need to get online and buy some dang curtains.
I have a love/hate relationship with store bought curtains though. I love the convenience of them. Who really wants to make curtains? But dang, why are they so expensive?
And please don’t even get me started on 84″ curtains. Someone played an evil joke when they decided that standard curtains should be 84″ long.
It had to have been a man
There are too many homes with floods as curtains.
But I digress…
Curtains can really finish a room and if you hang them correctly they can make your ceilings look higher and your windows appear wider. More about that later.
Let’s first talk about where to find affordable curtains.

Modern Farmhouse Curtains At IKEA
My favorite place to look for cheap curtains is IKEA. They have a ton of choices. I usually stick to the white curtains from IKEA but they have ones with pattern and color.
I had the Vivian curtains in my front room for a while. The price is so good and they are long curtains. No high waters here.
I added navy trim to the edges of the curtains to spruce them up a tad. You can see more about my DIY curtains here.
I ended up moving the Vivan curtains to my daughter’s room and I went out searching for new curtains. Guess where I ended up buying my new curtains? Yep, IKEA
This time I purchased the Lenda curtains. These curtains are so pretty. They look almost like they are linen. They are heavier and less see through than the Vivan curtains.
Do not let the picture on IKEA’s website scare you away.
They come with tabs and those are optional, really. You can hang your curtains using the tabs or do what I did.
I actually just copied what Young House Love did to their Lenda curtains. You can see that process here but in a nut shell, I cut the tabs off the curtains and used clips instead to hang my curtains.
And I just broke down and purchased the Sanela drapes in emerald green for my dining room. I love them. I was hesitate to add velvet drapes to my home but I thing it was just what my dining room needed.
I just added another IKEA curtain to my lineup. The Hannalill curtains might be my new favorite.
(I did a whole post of my IKEA favorites in this post)
Modern Farmhouse Curtains on Amazon
I have never purchased curtains from Amazon and that should surprise you since I love shopping at Amazon for home decor. But for some reason I have never went to Amazon for my curtains.
Update** I just purchased, in my opinion, the best drapes on Amazon for my daughter’s bedroom. They might be my current favorite drapes. They come in multiple colors and lengths and hang so perfectly
Curtains from this brand are great. They have great reviews and come in multiple colors.
If you are in need of longer curtains, these curtains are great and the price is even better.
If you are looking for really affordable curtains, I’ve got you covered with these curtains
I just purchased these curtains for a little DIY project I am working on and for the price they are really good white drapes
Modern Farmhouse Curtains At Target
It’s no surprise that you can find cheap curtains at Target…but their selection in store can be limited and they usually do not carry longer length curtains. But you can always find those curtains online.
These curtains are very pretty and come in different colors and sizes.
I love the pom poms and stripes of these curtains
Modern Farmhouse Curtains At Wayfair
Another great place to find affordable curtains is Wayfair. They have a ton of options and you can browse the whole collection here.
When I am searching for curtains online, I always look and read the reviews which I am sure most people do. These curtains come in multiple colors, sizes and the price is perfect for a set of 2 panels….and it passes my review test.
If you need some pattern in your life, these curtains look fun.

Modern Farmhouse Curtains At JC Penney
I know JC Penney is not a place you might look for curtains but don’t be fooled. Many years ago I bought faux wood blinds for our old house and they were so inexpensive and held up great for the 10 years we lived in that house.
In our new home, I wanted bamboo shades for our bathroom and I didn’t think twice about buying them from JC Penney.
So it only makes sense to check out their curtains.
I think these curtains are so fun. The color block detail is different in a good way. I would consider these neutral curtains but kicked up a notch with some personality.
These curtains are fun too with a more subtle color effect going on.
And you cannot go wrong with a buffalo check/plaid curtains…ever.

Modern Farmhouse Curtains At Walmart
I have to mention Walmart. I did a whole post on some of my favorite Walmart finds (this post) and I guess I totally forgot to add curtains to that post so I will do it here
If you are looking for an inexpensive basic curtain, this one is it.
You know I love me some Better Homes and Garden at Walmart and these curtains do not disappoint.
These curtains would look cute in a bedroom or if you are really looking for a full on farmhouse curtain.

Keep an eye out……
One last final tip is to keep your eye out for curtains on sale in some of the more expensive stores. I’m talking about Pottery Barn, West Elm, Ballard Designs, etc. Pottery Barn and West Elm always have their Premier Days once a month. I found beautiful curtains at Ballard Designs on Cyber Monday that were very affordable.
I’m all about saving a few bucks but dang these curtains hang so nicely. It is always worth keeping an eye out for a good sale!
Where to find affordable curtain rods
So you obviously need a way to hang your curtains unless you have magical powers.
I have been loving these rods lately and have been using them quite a bit. They come in black and silver too
I have purchased these rods for the curtains in my front room.
And I have these rods in my dining room.
I love these rods and will be using them somewhere in my house
These rods are great too and lean more modern and industrial
Tips on how to hang your curtains
Tip#1: Hang those curtains high and wide. Believe me when I say this will make your room look so much bigger. Even my 11 year old daughter commented that her room looked so much bigger after I hung her curtains. So just believe me and do it, k?
Tip# 2: Like I said earlier..please never buy 84″ curtains…84″ curtains should be banned. Unless you live in doll house, 84″ curtains will be way too short for your window. As a stated in Tip#1, you want to hang your curtains high above your window. 84″ curtains just won’t cut it. Just say no to the floods.
Tip#3: Curtain clips will be your best friend if you want to just hang your curtains/fabric quickly. I get mine on Amazon but any place has them.
Tip# 4: Train your curtains. That’s right, you need to train those bad boys. I did a whole post on how to train your curtains. You can read all about it in.this post
Tip#5: You can DIY your own curtain rods too. You can see how I made mine here.
Emily Henderson wrote a whole post about hanging curtains the right way. You can read it here.
