The best easy and quick IKEA hacks that can be done in one day!
We all love a good IKEA hack, right?
I know I do.
And I know you guys love IKEA
My most popular post is the one I wrote about IKEA’s must haves
I didn’t realize how many IKEA “hacks” I have in my own home.
So I thought, let’s just do a post about some easy IKEA hacks
And I mean easy
Some IKEA hacks are a bit much.
I love easy and quick so that’s what I found for you…
(**Fun fact-IKEA is now offering free shipping for small orders over $50 for IKEA family members)
Easy and quick IKEA hacks that you can do in a day with minimal (or no) power tools
Let’s start off with one of my favorite IKEA hacks.
The IKEA Curtain Hack:
Did you know that (mostly) every curtain from IKEA has pleating tape already sewn in for you?
This pleating tape is your ticket to hanging your cheap IKEA curtains to look high high end.
Don’t worry, I do have a tutorial for you. Keep reading
Here is a little before and after for you.
I love IKEA curtains and the fact that I can hang them to look more polished is just an added bonus!
If you want to see how you can pinch pleat your IKEA curtains (or any curtain with pleating tape) you can read my how to pinch pleat curtains blog post.
The IKEA LOMMARP Hack
I am not sure if this is really considered a hack but it was genius in my opinion.
For years, we operated as a family of 5 without a microwave
It’s a long story that I will not bore you with as to why we did not have a microwave
We survived just fine without a microwave but making popcorn on the stove the old fashioned way was getting old
I refused to plop a microwave on my counter so I go creative.
I purchased the LOMMARP cabinet from IKEA, which in my opinion is one of the nicest pieces of furniture that IKEA offers
I assembled it as the directions stated but did not put the middle divider into the cabinet.
Instead, I put a microwave right inside the cabinet
Some might say this is a bit much for a microwave but I say it’s a win-win. I have a nice looking cabinet in my kitchen now, a microwave and a bit of extra storage.
I think I came out on top of this one.
The FJALKINGE Bookshelf Hack
Unfortunately, the FJALKINGE bookshelf is being discontinued but this easy hack can be used on any IKEA bookshelf and it’s a no brainer
Some of IKEA’s furniture can be a bit plain so I dressed up the drawers on my bookshelf up with some pretty hardware
Here’s a really good before picture. This was my office years ago. Notice the sad bookshelves?
Here we are now. The after. I added drawers and pretty hardware to my bookshelves and it really elevated this very inexpensive piece of furniture
IKEA KALLAX hack
If you google IKEA KALLAX hack then you will likely find 4181 different hacks.
This piece of furniture is the most popular piece for a good IKEA hack.
The easiest way to hack this piece of furniture is to turn the shelf into a bench
Flip the shelf
Add a custom sized bench cushion and now you got yourself a cute little bench.
Surprisingly, I have not done this hack in my home so you get this interesting mock up I just created.
This is a great idea in a kids bedroom or in a mudroom.
IKEA LACK Wall Shelf Hack
Nothing like airing my dirty laundry…literally
For those of you who have been around for a while, know that I despise where my washer and dryer are.
The previous owners put a hook up to the washer and dryer right in the front room of the house…AKA my office.
For years I have tried to find a way to hide the washer and dryer.
Again, I won’t bore you with all of these details
But my most recent goal was to hide the dang dryer vent.
I added a long curtain rod and cafe curtains to my LACK wall shelf and voila, the dryer vent is gone
This is not the most exciting hack or the most pleasing to your eyes photo, but sometimes you just need function over beauty
The IKEA HULTARP hack
I’ve wanted to do this “hack” for so long and the measurements worked out perfectly for my shelves in my kitchen.
We’ve all seen the HULTARP rail hanging in kitchens or on walls
But I took the rail and turned it upside down and used it as gallery shelf rail on the shelves in my kitchen
Here is the before
And here is the after with the rails.
I installed a rail under my cabinets as well because, why not?
I have never loved my kitchen but I decided to embrace the traditional feel of it and these rails definitely help
And because I get asked all of the time, here is the link to my backsplash tile
IKEA Mirror Hack
This hack has been one of my favorite hacks I have seen in a long time.
It’s a very popular hack but just in case you haven’t seen how to create a grid mirror wall with the BLODLONN mirror, here you go
I hope I inspired you guys to make a trip to IKEA!
