Modern Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas
A cozy and traditional Christmas home tour with a touch of modern.
And here we are again…December sneaks up on me so fast.
I had all my ducks in a row before Halloween but then out of nowhere, my ducks got all crazy and now I feel like I am so behind in decorating my home for Christmas (and not to mention I’m behind with buying Christmas gifts too)
I am still decorating for Christmas. I have never been this late in my decorating game before.
I did get my house somewhat cleaned and some pictures taken of the rooms that were decorated.
I always keep my Christmas decor somewhat simple and limited to lots and lots of greenery.
But this year I decided to go big or go home. Maybe that is why I am still decorating my house.
I have more garland strung about than I ever have before.
And bows…bows make everything feel more festive.

Christmas Mantel
I suppose the star of the show this year is my mantel. I lost track of how many strands of garland is on that mantel but it is more than I care to mention
My kids always make comments about how much stuff I shove on my mantel but I just let them talk (and usually ignore them).
They also were not fans of the dried orange garland I made this year. They were acting as if I strung chicken wings on my garland.
Kids these days…
I always say who needs internet trolls when you have three honest kids?? It’s a rough crowd around here.
If you are wondering how I got all of that garland up on the mantel, the answer is….I have no idea.
I used craft wire and hung it to hooks that were already attached to the bottom part of my mantel. And then I just started weaving and stuffing all the garland and magnolia stems into the craft wire and hooks.
It was alot of trial and error.
This is my favorite garland. It is usually sold out but if you ever see it in stock, grab as many as you can and as fast as you can.

I put garland and wreaths on whatever I can find. I do have built in bookshelves I rarely ever show (for some reason) but they got a bit festive too
Christmas Entry Way
My love of garland carried on into my entry way.
I used this Velcro tape to attach all that garland on my banister. It was a huge help and I did not say as many choice words as I usually do when I am attaching my garland to the stairs
I also found these cute birch trees this year and I do love them. You’ll see the bigger version in a few seconds on my front porch.
I have had these stockings for years and every year I put them on my stairs.
I’ve had this pencil tree from Walmart for years now too and it fits perfectly right by our front door. Walmart no longer carries this tree and I have no idea why

Christmas Living Room
We have been putting our Christmas tree in our front living room for the past few years.
This house was not made for a Christmas tree and it is easier to get a tree in this room than in our main family room
I found this tree at Hobby Lobby and I’m pretty impressed by it. I originally wanted the infamous Amazon Christmas tree but I needed something a bit slimmer.
This tree looks so pretty at night too.
(You might see this tree again in a few seconds in my dining room because it gets moved once we cut our real tree. It’s a whole confusing process over here).
I did not do a whole lot in this room only because a giant tree usually fills this room up but I did find the cutest Christmas village at Hobby Lobby.
I gave this room a makeover recently and it is my favorite room in the house. (You can see more of this room here)

Christmas Home Office
Ok I lied, this is my favorite room in my house. I also recently gave this office a makeover and made it my one dark and moody room.
A wreath and some garland on my bookshelves was all I needed in here.
Christmas Dining Room
There’s that tree again.
It found it’s permanent spot in the corner of our dining room.
I usually add more to this room for Christmas but this year I lost steam at this point and just added a tablecloth and greenery to my table.
Christmas Front Porch
I am not technically done with the front porch yet but I snapped a picture of what I do have done. By time I get this front porch done, it will be Easter.
I put the other (and larger) version of the birch trees on my front porch. The garland and mini trees I have had for years.
I’ll try to post more pictures of the front porch once it is finished….if I ever get done decorating this year.
